How I Sync My Family Schedule: An Easy Wall Calendar Method

Ever since I finally got a beautiful acrylic wall calendar to hang in my kitchen, my husband and I have been more in sync with our schedules.

As a Registered Nurse, I work part time night shift two days a week, so my schedule is sporadic. My husband works dayshift Monday-Friday. And our two kids (two years and 11 months old) have the occasional doctor’s appointment.

I don’t know how I ever managed my home without a central calendar like this one. Well, to be honest, I managed, I just didn’t manage well.

Now, I can place not only my chaotic work schedule on the calendar for us to easily see, but I also write our meals (because my husband ALWAYS likes to know what’s for dinner!) and any other special notes or goings-on that my husband and I need to know about. Like, when I have a coffee date with a friend, it goes on this calendar. When my husband is going out hunting a certain night, he puts it on that calendar.

I personally don’t like to rely on the digital format for calendars, because so much more goes on than just scheduled events. For instance, I like to put things on the calendar like our meals, or notes/reminders of family members’ birthdays or an item on the to-do list that I cannot afford to forget about. Plus, my husband and I review our schedules in person, together, not through digital notifications or something like that.

Here’s my favorite family schedule organization tool in all its glory!

I bought this lovely acrylic (and personalized!) wall calendar years ago in 2021. It’s held up perfectly since then! It’s a 19×30″ calendar with 1/8″ thickness and flush mounted with black finished knobs.

You can choose different thicknesses and mounts, whether you want a flush mount like I chose or one that stands out a little from the wall for a more sleek look. Because I know the kind of chaos that goes on in my house, I chose the flush mount because I figured it would be more durable in the case that someone bumps up against it. So I’d say if you’re concerned about damage, then possibly get the thicker cut of acrylic calendar and a flush mount to help protect it if you’re worried about something bumping up against it.

I got my calendar personalized with our family name. You can personalize it with different colors and choose from a ton of different layout options and size options! You can choose an option that includes an area for meals that week or to do lists or chore lists. There’s so many options, you’ll definitely be able to find the layout and size that fits your family needs!

Here are the fine-tip dry erase markers I use. This marker fits in the small squares for the dates on the calendar. Regular dry erase markers are definitely too large to write on those small squares.

Happy planning!
